Mount gay xo age

Mount Gay Extra Old or XO as they appear to have re-branded it.  For those in the know Mount Gay Extra Old is often recognizable as MGXO.  The XO notation on the Mount Gay is pretty accepted across the rum and spirits industry to denote an aged spirit (without actually noting how former it is!).

As the Mount Gay Distillery is the oldest official distillery in the world established as the label denotes, I don&#;t think we desire to worry too much about the heritage and authenticity of the contents of this Extra Elderly rum.

The more established distilleries use labels such as XO because they cannot guarantee the exact integrate of rum&#;s which will be used in every batch of rum produced.  Each cask will be different and the ability in making rum &#;uniform&#; comes in the shape of the master blender.

The master blender at Mount Gay is in the shape of Allen Smith who has been with the distillery over 20 years.  Again this adds a guarantee as to what you will receive in the glass.

Mount Lgbtq+ have recently re-branded their bottles and introduced a few new lines in the shape of Inky Barrel and a several limited

Rum Review: Mount Gay XO

Mount Gay Extra Old

Up for review today is Mount Gay’s Extra Old rum. Mount Gay doesn&#;t provide any age statement on the bottle or their Web site, and while I have seen references indicating the product contains rums up to seventeen years old, the Ministry of Rum contends it’s a combine of seven, eight and ten year-old rums. Not in dispute is the fact that the Extra Old is aged in used Kentucky bourbon barrels and bottled at 83 proof. Let’s take a closer look at this fine Bajan product.

The bottle is substantial but plain. The shape is fairly unique, however, and the bottom of the bottle is quite thick. The black ink chips away easily from the gold label revealing unattractive nicks, but all in all, it’s a good presentation. Let’s remove the plump foil covering from the natural cork stopper and witness what’s inside. (It should be noted that this particular bottle has an ill-fitting cork. It’s quite loose and I imagine if I turned it upside down, the rum would coming pouring out. Cork is a instinctive product and variations are to be expected, but

Today I am comparing the Mount Gay Black Barrel against the Mount Gay XO. Wish me luck!

Mount Gay Distillery, located in Barbados, is one of the oldest distilleries in the world with the earliest proving document being a deed of sale from the 20th of February The original estate was originally formed by William Sandiford. In the mill and distillery were sold to John Sober (the irony) who then asked for help from his friend Sir John Gay (who owned the Nicholas Plantation) to manage the operations. That&#;s how the Mount Gay rum was born (renamed in after Sir John). You can find the full story on their website.

Mount Gay Black Barrel is a blend of column distillates and double pot distillates which are aged a second time in deeply charred ex-Bourbon barrels and bottled at 43% ABV free of sweeteners. I am clueless of the age of the juice, but by the style it seems younger than the XO ( years).

On the nose it&#;s creamy, the oak definitely present, spices, vanilla, coconut cream, apricot, unripe strawberries and red apples along with some citrus.

On the palate I

Generally, I am not a huge rum drinker because I find it a little too sweet for my liking.  Nevertheless, as you know, there are always exceptions to every rule.  Mount Gay XO is such an exception.

This rum is drier than most.  The master blender and his team include really produced a rum here that is unlike.  So, with that entity said, let's delve into the basic stats of this spirit and then check it out in the glass.
